While all eyes may be on the Rosehill Garden’s Racecourse this weekend with the Golden Slipper Day, the Caulfield Racecourse will be holding a more laid back affair as the Easter Cup Day goes ahead featuring some great races.
Headlining the day’s proceedings will be the penultimate race of the day – the Group 3 Easter Cup (2000m) – which will see 11 horses compete for the $125,000.
Going into the 2010 Easter Cup, Kidnapped is topping the early odds, despite drawing a wide barrier, at $4.
Going into the 2010 Easter Cup, Kidnapped is topping the early odds, despite drawing a wide barrier, at $4. Finishing eighth in the Group 1 Royal Randwick Guineas, the Peter Snowden-trained gelding competed against a top-quality field and may prove too classy for Saturday’s line up.
Close behind the three-year-old is the Mick Price-trained Miss Maren at $4.20. Finishing in the top half of the Group 1 Australasian Cup (1200m) at Flemington, the mare is certainly a strong galloper despite the outside start.
Rounding out the odds for the top three is Fanjura at $5.50. The Marju gelding has recently won a 1,700 metre handicap at Caulfield, topping a field of nine – and with the fourth barrier is another starter to watch.
Closing the odds for the 2010 Easter Cup is Rowland at $101 – and with the ninth barrier to his name would payout a lucrative sum if backed.
Also taking place on Saturday as part of the Easter celebrations will be the Group 3 Victoria Handicap (1400m).
